Meet Our Directors
Natalie Kenny Marquez
Natalie is the Marketing Coordinator for the City of Urbana and Director of Urbana’s Market at the Square. Natalie is proud to represent the seventh generation of her family to reside in Champaign County and enjoys that she can connect working at the Market with her family’s deep Midwestern agricultural roots. Natalie has a passion for event planning and marketing, especially for social media, and tries her best to carry these ideas and concepts over to the farmers’ market. Natalie holds Bachelor’s degrees in advertising and political science from Southern Illinois University and a Masters of Public Administration from the University of Illinois at Chicago and in 2016 became a Certified Farmers Market Manager through the Michigan Farmers Market Association. Natalie serves as Board President of the Illinois Farmers Market Association and serves on the Board of Directors of Visit Champaign County.
Sterling is the Assistant Market Director at Urbana’s Market at the Square. He grew up in a small, rural town in Central Illinois and has been around farming and agriculture from a young age. He began working at Urbana’s Market at the Square in 2016 and has quickly developed a passion for it and intends to help it grow even more. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Advertising from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign and hopes to use his skills in advertising and marketing to grow the farmers market brand. Sterling also serves on the Board of Directors for the Illinois Farmers Market Association.
Meet Our Saturday Staff
Sukiya has worked for the City of Urbana since August 2010 and had never visited the farmers market until 2015, when she joined Market Staff. Once she finally made it on Saturday morning, she realized how much she had been missing out! At the farmers market, she is surrounded by like-minded people sharing an interest in clean eating and healthy habits, not to mention access to some of the best and most nutritious food around.
Richard joined the Market at the Square in 2016 as a chance to work in his community. Richard is a techie but also has a passion for cooking and bike riding. Because of these and his strength of being an early riser, he fit right in to the Market environment and was a great addition to Market Staff.
Feely puts the “F” in freshness at the market! I enjoy being a part of the market staff team that helps bring healthy fresh produce and other homemade products to the local community. My family has been going to the market almost every Saturday since we moved here in April 2015 and we have fun every time. I am excited to be the 140 lbs of hired muscle at the market to help setup and clean up.
There’s nothing Cody enjoys more than coming out to Urbana Market at the Square on early Saturday mornings with his coffee in hand, ready to work. If you think you’ve seen him around somewhere else, chances are you have. Cody also serves as the Community Relations Manager for Visit Champaign County and is thrilled to work the Market to interact with local growers and makers, as well as the residents of the area he helps promote.
I have worked for the Urbana community since 2011–six years at the Urbana Police Department and four years at Urbana’s Market at the Square. I had not been to nor heard of a farmers market until I moved here, and I must say, I’ve met some pretty amazing people at the farmers market in Urbana! I absolutely love all the colors that are displayed at the market, from the fresh fruits and veggies down to the great crafts. I’m so excited to see what this season brings and to catch up with each and every one of you this season!
